Dear friends,

our friend esmeray wants to have a sex change. its a long thought essential step for her. she lives in istanbul and because of her sexuell identity there is a lot of discrimination and violence not only from the goverment, but also from a big part of the population. since she has big problems to find a job, its almost impossible for her to get the money for the sex change.

for years esmeray is activ in the womens movement and she is one of the editors of gaci, a trans-zine. there is a doctor who says he makes the operation to a relativly cheap price. friends of esmeray in istanbul started a kampagne to get the money. at this time she needs desperatly 2.000 euro for the operation.

we are trying to find 100 people who are willing to donate 20 euro each.

Liebe FreundInnen,

unsere Freundin Esmeray möchte eine Geschlechtsanpassung machen. Für sie ist das ein lang überlegter notwendiger Schritt. Sie lebt in Istanbul und ist dort aufgrund ihrer sexuellen Identität zahlreichen Diskriminierungen und Gewalt von Seiten des Staates und von großen Teilen der Bevölkerung ausgesetzt. Das beinhaltet auch extreme Schwierigkeiten bei der Arbeitssuche, wodurch es ihr unmöglich ist, die notwendigen finanziellen Mittel für die Geschlechtsanpassung aufzubringen.

Esmeray ist seit Jahren aktiv in der Frauenbewegung und ist Mitherausgeberin des Trans-Zines GACI. Ein Arzt hat sich bereit erklärt, die Operation zu einem stark reduzierten Preis durchzuführen. Ihre Freundinnen in Istanbul führen derzeit eine Kampagne durch, um die Operation zu finanzieren. Sie brauchen unsere Unterstützung. Zur Zeit benötigt Esmerai dringend 2000,- Euro, um die Kosten aufzustocken.

Wir hoffen, daß wir 100 Personen finden, die bereit sind, jeweils 20,- Euro zu spenden.

We, people of Lambdaistanbul Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Initiative are asked to evacuate our current cultural center where we have been continuing our activities everyday. And we have nowhere to go! Real estate agents and home owners are refusing to lease their places to us. We indeed have financial problems, but even when we can afford certain places, we are denied the right to rent these spaces due to sexual orientation discrimination. Unfortunately in a very short time, we will no longer have a cultural center to host you. Our cultural center which has served through its information line, library, archives, showing movies, as well as sharing time with you to share our stories and listening to each other, will no longer be there.

Im Sommer 2002 wurden mutmaßliche Mitglieder der beiden bewaffneten Gruppen 'ELA' und '17. November' verhaftet. Mit dieser Verhaftungswelle ging eine Verschärfung der Repression, eine Anpassung von Gesetzen an EU-Richtlinien und ein neuer Sicherheits- und Antiterrordiskurs einher.

Anwesend werden sein:

* Gianna Kourtovik (Anwältin von Dimitris Koufotinas [17. November] und Giannis Serifis [bekannter anarchistischer Gewerkschafter])

* Nikolaos Giannopoulos (Netzwerk für soziale und politische Rechte, Diktio)

* Ioannis Keloglou (Antiautoritäre Solidarität)

Mit ihnen wollen wir sowohl über die bisherigen und anstehenden Prozesse und die Haftbedingungen, als auch über die Bedeutung dieser Entwicklungen für die radikale Linke sprechen.

Darüber hinaus wird es Beiträge zur Geschichte Griechenlands und zu den Entschädigungsforderungen aufgrund der deutschen Besatzung im 2. Weltkrieg geben. Zusätzlich gibt es Informationen zum 4. europäischen Sozialforum im Frühling 2006 in Athen.

DATA RETENTION IS NO SOLUTION!

The European ministers of Justice and the European Commission want to keep all telephone and internet traffic data of all 450 million Europeans. If you are concerned about this plan, please sign the petition.

What's wrong with data retention? The proposal to retain traffic data will reveal who has been calling and e-mailing whom, what websites people have visited and even where they were with their mobile phones. Telephone companies and internet services providers would be ordered to store all traffic data of their customers. Police and intelligence agencies in Europe would be granted access the traffic data. Various, competing proposals in Brussels mention retention periods from 6 months up to four years.....

Global security and the "war on terror" now dominate the global political agenda. Driven largely by the United States, a growing web of anti-terrorism and security measures are being adopted by nations around the world. This new "security" paradigm is being used to roll back freedom and increase police powers in order to exercise increasing control over individuals and populations.

Under the public's radar screen, a registration and surveillance infrastructure of global reach is quietly being constructed. It includes the convergence of national and international databases, the creation of data profiles for whole populations, the creation of a global ID system, the global surveillance of movement, and the global surveillance of electronic communications.

The International Campaign Against Mass Surveillance (ICAMS) has launched a petition to demand that international organizations and national governments stop participating in the construction of this system.
